Chatter Bug VoIP Service

The Chatter Bug offers VoIP calling for those who don’t have a broadband connection but would like to take advantage of VoIP for long distance calls. It’s a monthly service ($9.95), so it’s not likely to appeal to people with broadband Internet access. The service offers unlimited long distance calling to the U.S. and Canada, with plans to add international calling soon.
According to the Chatter Bug FAQ, phones must be hooked up to the Chatter Bug in order to take advantage of the service: “Chatter Bug only works on the line (and linked extra cordless handsets) on which it is installed. If you want to cover more than one home line, you must purchase an additional Chatter Bug and pay for an additional monthly service charge. Your normal long distance telephone charges will apply to calls from those phones not connected to the Chatter Bug.”
The bottom line from Alice Hill at RealTechNews: “Pricey and a little cheesy unless you really love to talk it up long distance and have no interest in the internet.”
