Linksys CIT200 Internet Telephony Kit

CNET has a review of the Linksys CIT200, and found the wireless Skype phone performed well: ‘The CIT200 lacks an analog port, so we were unable to test the audio quality quantitatively. But when we made calls to Skype users, used Skype Out to call conventional phones, and received calls from conventional landline phones through Skype In, users’ comments ranged from “sounds like a cordless phone” to “excellent.”‘

TechWorld reviews the Linksys CIT200 handset and concludes: “This neat handset comes with a small wireless USB hub, which means you can chat over Skype even as you pop next door to feed your neighbours’ cat. The phone is brimming with answering, divert and speed-dial functions and, overall, we like its style and ease of use.”

Laptop Mag reviews the Linksys CIT200 and writes, “Call quality was mixed. We heard the other party loud and clear, but the sound quality itself was fairly harsh, with the balance tilted towards too much treble. From the other direction, it sounded almost as if whoever was using the CIT200 was speaking with a hand in front of their mouth. People can make out what you’re saying, but there is a perceptible difference between the CIT200 and the average cell phone (many of which don’t sound that stellar to begin with).”

Neville Hobson has a review of the Linksys CIT200 over at WebProNews. While he lives in the Netherlands, he had bought his Linksys CIT200 while at CompUSA. He’s impressed with the phone, but noted that: “The only negative was that, after buying it, I discovered that the power supply for the charging unit was US voltage only. You would have thought that it would have been universal to work in any country. But a $10 purchase at Fry’s got me a step-down voltage converter which works fine.”

Sci-Tech Today reviews the Linksys CIT 200, and notes, “The audio quality of calls ranges from mediocre to excellent, depending on factors such as the amount of available broadband. The quality also might vary depending on whether the call is made over a free Skype connection or a regular landline. All things considered, however, the CIT200 works as well as one can expect given the quality-of-service limitations of peer-to-peer calling over the Internet.”
